Preserve settings & stats when upgrading a podcast to a premium subscription
I just signed up for plus.npr.org. I need to "replace" my existing free subscription with the new premium subscription.
What I did was to delete the old subscription, and create a new one. This means I have to manually redo settings. Not a big deal in my case. This also means all playback history is lost, which is a little sad.
Is there a better way to "upgrade" an existing podcast description to a premium subscription?
3 votesYou can edit the RSS feed url of any subscription. That will keep the settings and its list of episodes. If you want to get rid of the episodes you can then long press on the podcast and reset it

Editable drop down player
The drop down player should be fully customizable. I don't know if it's you or my phone but I would like to be able to put the controls where I want. Especially since it seems to change every few months, I get used to where a button is and then it moves or dissappears

Allow subscribers of services like Amazon Prime to subscribe to add-free podcast using their account.
Some services like Amazon Prime now offer add-free podcast to subscribers. It would be great if it was possible to use podcast addict (PA) to subscribe to those podcast. The idea would be to safely enter your credential for a specific service in PA and then being able to search/subscribe to podcasts available from that service using PA with all the wonderful features it offers, instead of having to use multiple applications.
3 votesA podcast is a RSS feed. Unless Amazon starts providing private feeds for their subscribers this content will not be available in podcast apps

Add "don't show this again" to Optimized Apps warning
I do not want to add Podcast Addict to the Optimized Apps list - the app works perfectly well for me without this and I understand the limitations on things like background updates, which I don't need. Unfortunately, I am now constantly spammed with the red "Thanks to Google latest restrictions..." alert when I use Podcast Addict. This is really annoying.
Please add the option to acknowledge and suppress this warning.
1 voteThis banenr is displayed because the device is blocking app services and preventing it from working a it should. You have the name of the last service blocked in the past 24 hours in the message.
You just have to follow the FAQs instructions to fix this. Now any app relying on background services has to be excluded from the device optimized apps list..

Add ability to sort based on feed, rather than sorting changing every feed
I have some virtual podcasts, which are audiobooks, mixed with actual podcasts. Actual podcasts I have sorted using publication date. Virtual podcasts I want sorted by name, because publication date doesn't make sense. Would be great if my sorting choice is remembered for each specific feed
3 votesYou can already do this by going into Settings/Display/Podcasts and enabling Custom Sorting. After that each screen will have its own sorting mode

Breadcrumbs!!!
Is there any way I can easily go back to a Podcast I was just listening to? Or see my history? If you accidentally push a button and lose a podcast halfway through an episode you can't go back or see which one it is! My playback in progress list is incomplete. This is the worst and most frustrating part of PA besides not knowing where a track in the Recycle Bin came from if you cant see the art.
1 voteYou can Access the current podcast by pressing on the player banner displayed at the bottom of every screen. Then from the player screen you can swipe to see the playlist or press on the artwork to open the episode and access the remaining list of episodes of this podcast.
You can also use the navigation sidebar to open the 'Playback in progress' screen which shows the list of every episode you started listening to but didn't finished. Completed episodes can be seen from the playback History screen.
The recycle bin only contains episodes deleted automatically based on your automatic cleanup settings. They remain there for the duration you selected in the app settings. Please send me an email if you have any questions (Settings/Feedback)

Custom view filter for each podcast
In each podcast, there is the drop down menu option to filter so I only see All, Recent (7 days), Downloaded, Favorite, etc. The default filter is All. The issue is that when I exit the podcast page or exit the app, the filter changes back to All if I had changed it to anything else. It would be good to be able to save the filter on a per podcast basis. So e.g. if I set the filter to Downloaded, when I exit the app or podcast page and later re-enter the podcast page the filter remains set to…
3 votesYou can already set the app so that each podcast will use its own filter. To do this, go to Settings/Display/Podcxast and set default filter to 'Last filter (per podcast)'

Programmatic advertising filter
I am happy with adverts in podcasts, it's how they pay their rent, but programmatic ads are lazy and obnoxious for me. Sometimes the volume level is completely different and it can ruin a nice peaceful show. Please can we have a clear indicator of which podcasts use this, and a filter for when we are searching for new podcasts? Maybe even a notification if already subscribed podcasts suddenly start using them?

Highlight new episodes when refreshing
On the Recent Episode tab, would be great to have new episodes be highlighted or visually distinguished, just temporarily until you leave Recent Episodes.
When subscribed to many podcasts, a refesh could pull in dozens of episodes and it's unclear which ones I have/haven't looked at already.

Change notification icon to Playback symbol
Currently, the status bar icon of Podcast Addict is the logo. However, status bar icons are so small, that it hardly looks like anything but a random spot/dot.
I think it would be far more useful to change that icon into a "Play" (triangle) icon when podcast is being played, and to "Payse" ( II ) icon when playback is paused.

Hide notification icon
I am re-posting this suggestion, since the original request was denied based on false information.
"I love how customizable the notification settings are... but can you add the ability to hide the icon from the notification bar, while still listing the player when I swipe down? The player is always there, so no need to show an icon all the time. I have a samsung s21 with android 11. I don't think my previous phone did this. So to be clear, when I'm looking at my home screen, I don't want to see the podcast addict icon…
1 voteAndroid doesn't allow to post notifications without any icon. I'm sorry to hear that you don't accept this answer but again, this is how android works, and every new version of android adds even more constraint and forces older app to remove features...

Show dictionary option in the description pop out menu
In the Android system, when a user long-presses on a text area, the pop-up menu usually displays registered translation or dictionary apps to translate or look up the selected word. However, in the episode description text area of Podcast Addict, this option is not available in the pop-up menu that appears when long-pressed. Can this option be added?

Home screen Widget rewind and fast forward
There should be a version of the home screen widget with rewind (10 sec) and fast forward (10 sec) instead of skip podcast

Is there a way you can please allow separating science fiction and horror? They're not the same thing necessarily. Thank you!
1 votePodcasters follow the standard categories and select the ones matching best their content. Then podcast apps allow you to select filter by categories. However unless new official categories are created and podcsters start to use them we are limited to the current categories

include ability to wake up to a playlist
the current options for alarm are: podcast, ringtone, radio, or NULL. could we add the ability to start a playlist (or to resume playback of a current one?)?
i like to use the timer function to listen as i fall asleep, then id like to be woken up to the next podcast in that playlist queue. can this be done easily?

1 voteOptions are to listen to a specific radio, specific podcast, to resume playing the current episode or to start playing the category of your choice. Both the last options means playlist. Please send. Me an email if you have any questions (Settings/feedback)

The timer should be able to switch off app
To save energy, it would be useful if the timer could stop the app, not just the player. This would allow the phone to consume less power overnight.
1 voteI'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean here. The sleep timer stops the player, so after that there's nothing more running and he app won't be using any battery. There's nothing more to stop here

change 'sort remaining time' to take account of playback speed
If you have different podcasts with different custom playback speeds then sorting by remaining time sorts them by their overall length if played at 1x but the UI shows their lengths based on their custom speeds, which makes it look like the list is mis-sorted. When sorting by remaining time what I'm really looking for is the podcasts which will be consumable fastest, so I really want the podcast at the top which I can listen to from beginning to end the quickest.

Provide file names for episodes
Xavier, I understand the need to keep episode names due to the vagaries of podcast hosting servers, but I would like to at least SEE the original filename from within the app. It doesn't have to be in the player, just somewhere in the episode information. Is that possible?
