add option to stream oldest to newest
Unless it's a setting I haven't found, the app needs the option to stream episodes in order oldest to newest without having to deal with playlists.
The app will play content depending on the sorting of the queue.
You need to open the player screen, then swipe right to show the queue content and from there you can use the toolbar sorting button to customize the order

this is not true, regardless of sort settings, the player always plays newest to oldest

Hi Xavier,
I think I can summarise what has been requested here:
The App currently Lists AND Plays episodes of a podcast in the same order, what would nice is the ability to list the episode in one order but being able to play in a different order. Google Podacst app supports the above, so what is requested is the following:
a. List Episodes New on top and older lower ( or other options)
b. Play Episodes from older to Newer sequence, eg, I want to listen to the 4 most recently published episodes of a podcast chronically (ie last 4th published then 3rd last and so on till most recent), I start from the last fourth episode, and the app will automatically play the episodes in sequence until it reaches the last published episode.
c. The above setting has to be global to all podcast ( but can be customised for each individual podcast)Hope this clarifies the requirement.

I've finally found the solution. In the podcast itself, hit the 3 dots to open the menu/setting, select "sort", and then select Order by "publication date (old-->new). This reorders the episodes in the correct oldest to newest chronological order.

The app plays episodes based on your settings. Please send me an email in case you have any question so I can help (Settings/Feedback). Make sure to read the FAQs about playlist to get more details on how to use it (Settings/FAQs)

Mine shows top to bottom or bottom to top, not chronological. And neither seem to take me to the next podcast in chronological order. Super frustrated with this.

I thought I had it. I have the episodes displaying in the correct order but it is still jumping to the bottom and playing the latest episode after finishing each episode. I remember last time there was about 3 things I had to change just to get it working properly. Does anyone ever really want to listen to a podcast series in reverse order ( newest to oldest)?

Actually, just found it. Looks like it's been made easier but I was still looking for the old way. It's just selecting sort from the drop down menu within the podcast. Then it plays oldest to newest (or whatever order you set). Still think oldest to newest should be the default for sane people though. Maybe have a question when setting up, sane or insane setup? lol

Dan this is difficult to do in this app. I got it working a year ago and I have just downloaded a new podcast. Been trying for about 15 minutes to get it to play oldest to newest. Something that should be the default behaviour for any same listener.

You should definitely do this. Current options, including your suggestion are overly complicated.

To be more specific I'd like to long press any episode and select either (1) episode play order: Name Descending (in case of ebook or lecture type episodes from a folder I've added, or (2) episode play order: Published Date older to newer. This would allow (1) listening to lecture episodes in the order delivered, or (2) catching up on episodes 30-35, as the person below requested. Either way the custom sort order would not have to change. Episodes 30-35 would still be at the top of the list, if sorted in sort order Publication Date newest to oldest.

I agree. It's too hard to change the episode play order. I want to long press any episode and play in newer or older sequence. If there are hundreds of episodes and you want to change the order, you have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find the newer episodes.

To do so you can add those episodes to the playlist or enable Continuous playback mode. Then when you start playback you can open the plaback queue (open the player screen and swipe right) and then select the sorting mode of your choice -

I recently started following a podcast with over 10 years worth of podcasts.. I'm not going to go back to episode 1...but I would like to listen to the last year's worth of of podcasts, starting with the episode a year ago, and then continuing in order to the most recent.
This is similar to the way that Anonymous commented on March 1, 2017 at10:46 AM that he wanted to catch up on episodes.
Can you explain in step by step detail how this mode of operation may be accomplished using Podcast Addict? If it is NOT possible, and you don't plan on implementing this feature in the near future, can you (or anyone) recommend a podcast app for android phones that will play back a selected date range of podcasts in this older to newer order?

@Anonymous
It will only behave like that if you enabled 'play first in playlist'.
By default the playlist just keeps playing the following episodes.

Hey Xavier, your suggestion doesn't work for how I think most people are trying to listen. If I sort Oldest-Newest, listen to an episode, the next episode that plays will be the very first episode on the list that wasn't played yet (i.e. the oldest). So unless I've listened to every episode of a podcast, I can't just listen from the oldest to newest starting with the most recent bunch.
For example: I'm trying to catch up on episodes 30-35. I listen to episode 30, expecting 31 to be played next, but instead it takes me back to episode 1 because I didn't listen to that episode on this app. It's frustrating.
