Global variable speed option
I would absolutely love it if there was an option to have the variable speed currently set in the player have effect globally, rather than just on a per podcast basis. In this case, the current and subsequent episodes would all be played at whatever the current player speed setting was, ignoring whatever speed each podcast was last played at
I find that I have to change the speed based on the environment I am listening in. For example, when using earphones I can usually get up to around 2.5x and still understand everthing, however when using the phone or a bluetooth speaker I can only get up to around 1.5x, after which things become less inteligible. When listening in either environment I have to often change the speed when a new episode starts playing.
It isn't a huge issue, but would make the listening experience more enjoyable.
Thanks very much.

FYI there’s a setting in Settings/Player called Playback “speed factor” which allows to select how much of the current playback speed is applied when you listen through a loud speaker. For example, I set this at 33%.
This means that the podcast set to 2.5x is played at 2.5x only when listening with a headset (wired or BT). Otherwise the app will play at 1.5×. Once you enable this, you won’t have to change the playback speed based on the environment. The app will do it for you

@Xavier, the speed factor is great, but it would be even greater if one could manually select the BT devices it is applied for. I have a BT speaker that my phone thinks is a headset, so the speed factor is not applied. And I haven't tried it in my car, but from the description I expect it would currently only work if I used Android Auto, which I don't want to do as Android Auto does not support my navigation app of choice. So there too, selecting my car's BT connection manually for the speed factor to be applied would be great.

@kerry_saisbury use android auto. you do not have to be in a car for it to work but it will trigger the "playback speed factor" so regardless of what output you are using you can quickly control the playback speed. this works well for the times you want slower speed and can do without interacting with your phone, because android auto restricts what kinds of things you can do while it is active.
it is easy to exit and return to your full-speed needs. unfortunately this only allows having 2 states. and only if you do not need to interact with your phone in one of them.
so while i appreciate this feature and make use of it, it does not address everyones needs, completely. hope this helped.

@Xavier, that does not solve my scenario. My "environment" is related to the people around me, and location, not the speaker I am using.
If people are in the car with me I want 1x speed.
If I am alone in the car I might want 1.5x.
If I am in the shower I want 1.3x speed (or 1x if I am with other people).
Otherwise I want whatever speed I have configured for the individual podcast. -

Xavier, we are asking for a temporary global override. I have variable speed individually configured for many podcasts, but when my friend gets in the car I want all podcasts to playback at 1x speed. When he gets out of the car I want to revert to my normal speed.
A global speed option that's easy to access, because I'm in the car. This actually solves quite a few similar requests.

In my usage, I almost never want to change the speed of an individual podcast. Instead, I'd like to change the global speed throughout the day depending on how focused I can be. Having the player control be per podcast makes it difficult because I have to repeatedly go back and update the speed. With the global speed buried in the settings menu it's too difficult to change on the fly.
I love the app and I change playback speed often so having the global speed easy to access and change would be great!

It would be great to implement this feature. That would be helpful when trying to change playback speed when driving. Going to a deep menu option is dangerous when driving, and changing speed in the player for every podcast is also distracting.

@Xavier How do I get a podcast to respect the global setting change after changing it locally? I temporarily changed the local speed but want to control everything globally.

@xavier, how can i revert a podcast that has had the playback speed changed to use the global playback speed setting?
i am in the same camp as asckiwi, and have changed my speed setting depending on the listening environment, not realising it would effect all episodes of the podcast going forward.
i would like an option to allow me to change the player speed setting that would play all episodes at the specified speed, until the player speed is changed again. a button that allows me to quickly revert the set speed back to the global playback speed would be welcome as well.

Thanks for the reply Xavier, but that doesn't do what I am suggesting.
Say I have set the default speed at 1.5x, then I listen to episode 1 of podcast A, followed by episode 1 of podcast B. During podcast B I change the speed to 2x. The next episode of podcast A is next, but it is again played at 1.5x, rather than the desired speed of 2x.
Basically my suggestion is to have an option that ignores per-podcast speed settings. If you change the speed in the player it would change it for all podcasts, until the next time it is changed.

If you change the player speed in the app settings, then it's applied to every podcasts.
If you change it on the player screen it applies to the current podcast only (which won't be affected by global setting change anymore after that)
