Allow variable speed to remain enabled at 1.0x speed
Most podcasts I listen to are talking (fiction, quiz shows, etc), and I listen to those at 1.2x speed.
However, there are some podcasts that combine talking with music (e.g. podcasts where they talk about a song and then play it, or the 'Weather' in 'Welcome to Night Vale').
For such podcasts, I like to switch between listening faster (for the talking) and 1.0x speed (for the music).
However, when I switch to 1.0x speed and click OK, the variable player turns off and the regular player turns on and the podcast starts playing from several seconds away from where it was when I clicked OK. And then, when I want to switch back to variable speed, I have to turn it back on before changing the speed.
I would like the option to override (per podcast) the default behaviour so that the variable player remains enabled even at 1.0x speed.
(I am aware that the variable-speed player uses more battery, even when playing at 1.0x, and if this request is implemented, I would be okay with a warning that says so.)
Right now, I just leave the speed-chooser dialog open in order to accomplish what I want, but that's really inconvenient, as it blocks access to all the other controls.

@Dmitry: your comment is irrelevant to the request. The request is not to override the speed per podcast but to *change the default behavior of the variable speed control* when returned to 1.0x speed.
(Per podcast, yes, but it's still different functionality than already exists.)

This is already in the app. You may override playback speed on per-podcast basis.
