allow multiple playlists
I listen to different types of podcasts depending on what I am doing. I'd like to be able to separate them so I don't have to keep messing with the order of the list.

Podcast Addict v3.42 has just been released.
This new version finally adds support to multiple playlists.
In order to use this new feature, you can go into the Playlists screen and select the new ‘Custom’ tab.
Then you can select the category of your choice and listen to it.
Those default categories are provided by the podcast owner in their RSS feeds, but you can press on the toolbar ‘Category’ button and add/delete/customize them.
That way you can create playlists like News, Commute, Workout, Audiobooks, SFW, …
Each playlist can have its own sorting mode.
Please let me know what you think about this new feature
Thanks
=========
New version will add multiple playlist support.
In order to do so you will need to enable Continuous playback mode in the app Settings/Playlist screen
Then the playlist screen will have a 3rd tab which displays the podcasts categories.
You can then select the category of your choice to start listening to it.
You can edit/delete/add categories
The app will remember the sorting by category

Any news on this feature?

Thank you for your efforts. Ideally, I'd like this feature to separate my kids' podcasts from mine. I'd be happy with just two or three if unlimited playlists would be too unwieldy.

Xavier,
Thanks a lot for your application, I use every day.
In case it could help, here is a (one more) suggestion for the multiple playlists feature, that could fit my need. For example, for 3 playlists for a first step (to reduce the impacts on display, while I think 6 will be ideal, as usual pre-recorded frequencies in a car radio):
- replace the priority parameter for each podcast by 3 parameters, 1 for each playlist,
- create (dynamically?) 3 playlists (anywhere) instead of 1, with the same playlist parameter configuration, except the priority of each podcast,
- eventually the value 0 as priority could mean "not present in this playlist",
- why not 3 playlist widgets ?
- and in a next step, perhaps the user could rename the playlists (priority parameter of the podcast) as he wants, and the playlists could have different parameter configurations…
Thanks for reading this suggestion. Do what you want/can with it. PA is really a very useful application, and, as a lot of people, I really expect the multiple playlist feature.
Best Regards.

Very grateful for your hard work and your generosity!
I would like to Politely reinforce what others have said re. the feature you've proposed versus what I, at least, am hoping for.
Your solution is creative, and I see how it could be useful, but for me it would be considerably more useful to have the ability to create folder-style playlists and manually add podcasts to them.
Of course, this may not be as easy to do as we non-podcast addict-developers might blithely assume. But, insofar as your greatest desire is to satisfy every last nitpicky whim of freeloading "customers" like myself, I thought you'd appreciate knowing exactly what I want:)
Whether or not this is possible, I thank you again.
(Now, I'm going to go buy the "ad free" version, which I'm hoping will help compensate you for a small handful of the innumerable keystrokes you've obviously put into this app that I use for hours every day.) -

Please don't waste a lot of time developing another automatic setting. I want to simply be able to manually make multiple playlists with names I choose, and be able to add whichever podcasts I want to each playlist. Seems pretty basic. A setting that automatically adds podcast episodes from the current podcast, and then clears it when another podcast is started isn't only not what we're waiting for, it has nothing to do with what we're waiting for.

I too would like multiple playlists. My use case is for podcasts I want to listen to later or again. I'd like to move them from my main playlist to a separate list/folder for later review. Currently I tag as favorites and move to the bottom, but this is not ideal.

Using priorities I only would probably have two playlists when this feature is implemented: talk and music. My workaround is just to give all my music podcasts the lowest priority then switch from sort by priority z-a to a-z when I want to listen to music. For 3+ "playlists" you could just group them by priority, then change the priority of those you want to hear (you can collectively change priority of all podcasts currently at a given priority) to the highest/lowest priority. Not perfect but pretty easy and probably effective for most people...

I have an idea how to solve this. Maybe It will help, if there will be a possibility to click on the podcast icon (or to add a button) in the list of podcasts what would cause playback of the last time played podcast episode. Would it be difficult to implement? Currently when changing the podcast I have to click the podcast and search the log list of episodes to search the one I've listen to for the last time. This is a very difficult task to do in the car for example.

I see more people are looking for the same feature. I would also have the possibility to switch between different podcast (maybe based on podcast groups). When I bike I used to listen to heavy metal podcast, when I drive I listen to talkshows and sometime I try to listen to spanish language learning podcast. I would like to switch easily between those groups with possibility to start the playlist at the position where I stopped. When the episode end I would like to have another episode of the same group in the queue. I hope you will have a change to move this fantastic app even closer to our habbits. Thank you very much for your hard work!

Love the app and your efforts. This us a crucial feature but your solution is not even remotely addressing the need... Multiple playlists to listen to podcasts grouped in whatever way the listener likes. Auto playlists based on episode listened in NOT the first step to solving that. Please see competing apps that simply offer multiple folders, as an example, to offer the feature. Thanks

+3 Custom playlists-absolutely vital for my use. I listen to podcasts by category & this is a make it or break it deal for me with this app. Absolutely wonderful app, except for this deficiency.

I'm not really sure how the interim solution of automatic playlists is useful (I don't even know how to exercise it)
+3 for Multiple playlists

At first, I was so content of using the app. But as months gone by, I've accumulated lots of subscriptions and interests...
I'm recently having this urges of needing personalized playlists. I like listening to creative business podcasts, house organizing subjects, high profile interviews... and then added AUDIOBOOK mp3's.
I'm very much into audiobook these days while cleaning the house, and I have to click all those .mp3 in the one and only playlist and sort them by clicking to updated/created time, and when it's all cluttered, I manually sorted them.
And when I have the mood to listen to various creative business podcasts, I also re-do the steps I mentioned above.
THANK YOU btw for the amazing app! It would be more brilliant for this new feature!

I just discovered a need for multiple playlists when, like other users, I started listening to an online course and really wanted/needed to created a separate playlist for it. Keep up the great work, hope to see custom playlists in the future!

I have many lectures on many topics in mp3s sorted in categories by a folder structure. Seems natural when the task is file management. However playing these in file system order is not possible now. With Poweramp Folder capabilities it's trivial to create multiple playlists in filesystem order across many folders. There is also a very nice manual playlist sorting functionality. Would love to see this in Podcast Addict. What Poweramp lacks is Podcast Addicts full screen car mode, skip back/forward 30 seconds (user defined) and memory of where in a playlist and individual track play was stopped and should be resumed. So at this time Podcast Addict is my player of choice for audio learning.

I'd really like to see this feature. I have two main categories for mine - professional and personal - with a variety of podcasts in each. At the moment I add to the playlist and them move them up or down to sort them into some order. Then I can choose the one in the order I wish to start. It's not ideal but I don't see another way - multiple playlists is my top feature request.

Not even close to the concept initially suggested. Multiple playlists, as created by the user, not start and stop existing playlist, etc. The interim solution offered is way too complex and unnecessary.

Another way might be to make any of the lists (reading in progress, downloaded, recent, and (not yet used) categories) act as a playlist.

So, are there still plans to add a 'multiple playlists' option? Not just by podcast, but, say, to have one music playlist and one talk playlist? This would be a great add!
