Backup episodes read to preserved this info in the application needs to be reinstalled
Episodes read are lost if application needs to be re-installed. This information should be backed up with other application user preferences. Backing up only subscriptions is inadequate for recovery.

This feature has been delivered in v2.0.×. It allows you to backup everything (settings, subscriptions, episode flags, episode progress, playlist, …) except downloaded media files like episodes and thumbnails. The restore feature will allow you to trigger a full re-download of the episodes that were already downloaded on your previous device unless you copied them manually.

Is there a way to make this backup process automatic?

@Christian
Yes you can use the backup to restore the app data on any device.
If you have any issue, please send me the backup file via email so I can check it (Settings/Feedback) -

Is this working also to move from one device to another? I tried that and it did not work for me.

It looks like you don't have any more free space to backup or your download folder isn't available. Please check settings/download/storage location

Thank you so much for all your hard work! But I seem to be having a problem with the back up.
When I try to "Backup" or "Full backup" there is an error pop-up:
"Failed to back: Uknwown" [sic]
I don't believe it's backing up.
I'm running Android 4.2.2 with PA version 2.15.1 (build 264)
I love this app and have been using it for ages! I want to restore my phone, but don't want to lose all my podcast listening history. Thank you so much for reading my comment :)

woo, very nice!
I used titanium backup root when I migrated from old to new device, which is not an option for many people.

I'm now interested in rooting my device, which will require a full wipe. This app is the only one that will be painful to restore to its current state since I can't backup/restore which episodes have been marked as read.
