offer an api to allow control via another app. poweramp allows current playing song, picture etc which is great for integration in car apps

You can control the app through intents with apps like tasker. Android doesn't support prev/next controls on headset.

Allow access to currently playing podcast name, image, time remaining and current time. Allow hooks for events such as start, stop and time updated when playing.
Allow control of back and next rather than just headset.
