Additional Tags besides 'read': old, broken
such as
· old: episode not longer in RSS
· broken: episode file 404
and accordingly, more elaborate filter options:
· don't show old episodes
· REMOVE old episodes that are unread & unfavorited from db
· show ONLY read episodes
Right now, I have thousands of old episodes accumulating of which most are removed from the servers. But marking them as read does not remove them from the database, and it's also counterfactual because I have not actually listened to them. My podcastAddict.db is already 40 MiB and it unsurprisingly slows down the app somewhat.

It is huge, and took nearly 15 to optimize.. shoved off only 4MiB (manual sqlite3 compaction: even less)

That's a really huge db. Did you to 'optimize' the db (Settings/Backup/Optimize) ?
Can you please do a full backup of the app db and use the share button to send it to me via email/cloud sharing, so I can check why it's slowing down the app ?
FYI the backup contains your settings, playlist, subscriptions, and episode status.
Thanks
