    I have reached the point where I have too many podcasts downloading. I want to be able to switch several of them into "archive" mode without having to go into the custom settings for each one.

    It looks like the Custom playlist tab already allows you to do this.
    You can create categories of podcasts (History, Dudes talking, …) and affect podcasts to those categories. Then you can select the category you want to listen to

  5. add a filter option to the Downloaded list to filter episodes by category, not just by individual podcast.

    Next version will allow you to select if you want to filter episodes list screen by podcast (like it is right now) or by category. If you select the later, then you can easily select the episodes for a specific category to apply an action like download, mark played, add to playlist, …

    I subscribe to 132 podcasts. Filtering by category would definitely be useful.
