2) Select all or some episodes
3) Add these episodes to a (previously created) category
It's effectively like a poor man's version of a smart playlist.

It looks like the Custom playlist tab already allows you to do this.
You can create categories of podcasts (History, Dudes talking, …) and affect podcasts to those categories. Then you can select the category you want to listen toFranck Rasolo supported this idea · -

Just a heads up regarding the latest version of the app. It doesn’t provide cross device syncing yet, but it allows you to sign in to your Google Drive account and have all your data automatically backed up to make sure they are safe at all time. It also makes restoring the data on a new device really easy.
You can go into Settings/Backup to enable this and sign-in

Alas, the use case below is wishful thinking, it describes what I would like to do, not what's currently possible in Podcast Addict.
