Unfortunately there's nothing I can do if the podcast owner removed old episodes from his/her server. The app doesn't host anything. Only the podcast owner can change this

    @Girish

You can already do that, by selecting a category in the main screen, then select all podcasts and apply an action.

FYI there’s a setting in Settings/Player called Playback “speed factor” which allows to select how much of the current playback speed is applied when you listen through a loud speaker. For example, I set this at 33%.
This means that the podcast set to 2.5x is played at 2.5x only when listening with a headset (wired or BT). Otherwise the app will play at 1.5×. Once you enable this, you won’t have to change the playback speed based on the environment. The app will do it for you

AdminXavier Guillemane (CEO / Founder, Podcast Addict) commented  ·

If you change the player speed in the app settings, then it's applied to every podcasts.
If you change it on the player screen it applies to the current podcast only (which won't be affected by global setting change anymore after that)

Regarding your question, no it's not possible.
You can only link those files to the app data by restoring a backup.
For now you can add a virtual podcast to listen to those files in the app, but there won't be linked to your subscriptions.

Just a heads up regarding the latest version of the app. It doesn’t provide cross device syncing yet, but it allows you to sign in to your Google Drive account and have all your data automatically backed up to make sure they are safe at all time. It also makes restoring the data on a new device really easy.
You can go into Settings/Backup to enable this and sign-in
    Thanks

@Anonymous the app will never be able to sync status with iTunes.
Apple doesn't provide such APIs, so that's not possible

Thanks for the information, but unfortunately I cannot ask for this permission as it doesn't make any sense for a podcast app to use the camera.
Also their API isn't complete for now and only basic information can be synced.

    @zed

I tried to contact them to ask some questions but I didn't get any answer.
It looks like it's missing some features, and there's no way to know if their server can handle the charge. Finally I already started working twice on this feature and both times the solution I chose was deprecated... I want to make sure this won't happen again

Google Plus is just used for the login mechanism.
The problem with Google native sync mechanism is that it can only be used where there isn't a lot of data to synchronize.
Some users have A LOT of subscriptions (200+). This can mean a number of episodes to synchronize of 50K, 100K or even more.
Because of that those solutions aren't adapted

There's no beta for this. I had to cancel twice this feature as Google reader service closed, then Dropbox Sync API was deprecated.
For now I'm still looking for a solution...

I'm still working on Android 6.0 update. Then a couple of weeks after the Android 6.0 release I will have more time to resume my tests

I started developing this based on a Dropbox API. The subscriptions syncing was fully developed as well a 50% of the episode status syncing, but Dropbox announced that their were cancelling this feature...
So I have to find another solution. I could handle it on my side by adding more servers, but because I want this available in the free version as well I'm afraid it might cost me a lot to implement this, so I'm still looking for an alternative.
Also the upcoming Android M version will require a lot of work so Podcast Addict can work properly, so for now I don't have an ETA...

Yes but this is limited to devices with access to the Google Play Services. I'm trying to build a solution which will work on devices without Google Play Services. That way, you will be able to synchronize Kindle devices, BB devices, on Chrome, and Windows 10 ;)

Usually I publish the beta so everyone can retrieve it on the play store (you need to be part of the beta tester group on G+), but in this case it will be limited to a few users first.
I will need users willing to do some testing and to send me some feedback in case they see some speed impact, battery usage issue, bugs, ...

I don't know exactly how I will proceed yet but once the beta is ready I will post a comment with all the information

It doesn't look like it. What they call a universal app is an app that will run on any Microsoft device/OS, but they don't provide the tools to convert Android apps anymore (at least for now)

@Aaron developing an app takes a lot of time, especially when you're alone and doing this on your free time.
This app won't be developed for other platform.
I might build a Windows Universal app once Microsoft fixes the framework tools/limitations.
But because the app doesn't have a cross device syncing feature the universal app might not be very useful for now.
The only thing that might be developed later is a webapp, so the app can be used from any device, but this won't happen any time soon...

    @Borek Bernard

The problem is that Feedly might give access to old content that some podcast owner removed from their RSS feeds because they want the user to go to the podcast website to retrieve this old content.
If podcast owner want to give access to archives they can do this by using RSS feed paging mechanism. Podcats Addict support it and will retrieve all the available archives in that case.

The problem isn't a technical issue but a legal one.

    Hi,

Sorry but this app 'Ivoox' seems to be only available in Spanish so no I don't know this service.
Yes there are podcast owner who are choosing to make older episodes available only through their website so they can earn some money by selling them.
I can assure you that they don't like it if you provide content not available in their RSS feed. I have been contacted quite a few times because of this, and they asked me to remove those content.
Once again, podcasts are available through the podcast owner RSS feed.
You can open the podcast RSS feed on any web browser and you will see that the app only show the content of the RSS feed.
To do so, long press on the podcast (not the episode), select Copy to clipboard and paste the result in a web browser, then you can scroll down to see what the older episode is.
Please share the podcast RSS feed so I can take a look at it.
Once again any server can store past episodes and make them available once they aren't available in the RSS feed anymore, but this might be illegal as explained earlier and more importantly, this will make those episodes not available anymore on the #1 podcast platform which is iTunes.
iTunes only shows the episodes which are still in the RSS feed... Feel free to take a look at this podcast page on iTunes to see what the oldest episode available is.

So if the podcast owner really wants to give access to every episodes he should make sure not to truncate his RSS feed.
Feel free to send my email to the podcast owner if he want to talk about it, but this is a really simple issue.

Podcasts relie on RSS feed. Anyone can open a RSS feed a check its content.
The app just provide the same content as the web browser does. If you don't have those older episodes, you won't find them either in the web browser page.

Maybe this podcast has different RSS feeds, some of them containing every episodes, other containing only the last XX episodes, in that case please give me some information so I can check if a more complete RSS feed exist

    Xavier

I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do about this.
The app displays the content of the RSS feed provided by the podcast owner.
If the podcast owner doesn't want old content to be in the RSS feed then it's his choice. He's the only one who can decide what's available or not.
The app supports RSS feed paging, so if the podcast owner wants to keep the RSS feed light for performance reason, he can create archive pages for the feed and link them together. The app will then find those archive pages and display their content as well, but once again, this is the podcast owner choice.

I don't know what IVoox is, but any service that handles the RSS feed parsing server side can store older episodes. They just add new content without removing older content when it's no more available in the RSS feed, but this isn't legal...
If the podcast owner wants you to go through his website for older content (to display ads, or for you to buy them) it's is choice and everyone should respect that.

So, I'm sorry but I won't reconsider this. The app will keep displaying unlimited content provided by the RSS feed, while respecting the podcast owner choice to limit access to past content or not.

BTW I can assure you that more than 90% of the podcast feed in the app database gives access to every episode without restriction. Most podcast giving access to a limited number of episodes are done by professional podcast owner who are making older content available on paid platform or by radio station.

Feel free to send me your podcast RSS feed url, so I can check what kind there are.

    Thanks

As I already explained, the app is getting its information from the RSS feed. If the RSS feed is truncated by its owner then you wont be able to get older episodes. There's no server behind the app that parses the feeds and stores their episodes. Everything is handled at the app level
