I would like to see this too. I frequently end up with downloaded episodes that I still may listen to someday, but want to free up space on my device. It would be helpful to just be able to do some clea up while still keeping the episode unplayed.

FYI I solved this problem using the priority feature. Assign each of your podcasts a priority, then set your playlist to sort by priority (then optionally by publication date), Then set the playlist playing option to always play from the top of the playlist.
That way, say I can be listening to a low priority episode of a podcast, then when one that is high priority comes out, it will automatically go to its respective order.
It's been working great for me like this for the past few months.

I agree. I have a lot of news podcasts that I listen to and I'd like them to be automatically added up next in the playlist when they download (so second), rather than at the bottom.
Furthermore, when I click the trash can/delete button, I generally do want the episode to be marked played and deleted. I guess I'd like some sort of "undownload" functionality so I can have both behaviors, which are both desirable under certain circumstances.
