Using cloud.feedly.com as a back-end for podcast RSS feeds
I was using google listen previously, refreshing through google reader (all podcast tagged with "Listen Subscription").
I suggest to have a new alternative for Podcast Addict using feedly as a back-end to synchronize RSS feeds.

Used feedly integration with BeyondPod as a cross-device sync mechanism *and* a way to easily manage my feeds in the cloud from my PC and not worry about phone backups or restores. That part of BeyondPod worked great and I sorely miss this in Podcast Addict.

Feedly would also allow you to get to the older episodes which are sometimes accidentally missing from the feeds (authors have no problems providing full archives but don't realize that the RSS generator only outputs the last 20 episodes or so). Feedly would take care of it.

There are a number of dedicated feed management apps on the internet which do their job well. On other hand Podcast Addict is a podcast manager (excellent, btw), not a general feed manager and should not be it. Integrating with third-party feed managers such as Feedly and Inoreader would be a great point. I believe most of them support Google Reader API which simplifies accessing them a bit.
Another solution might be a continuous OPML import/sync. Currently, one can import feeds from an OPML files. But this is a one-time action. What if we can specify OPML url to sync periodically? For example, with Inoreader I can create an OPML feed for one of my subscription folder and make it publicly available, e.g. http://www.inoreader.com/reader/api/0/bundle/opml/0014cd636fe5. That way would not allow tracking of listened episodes on the side of the OMPL source, though. But that's better than nothing.
