Getting Started Guide

The first thing to do once the app has been installed is to subscribe to podcasts. To do so, press the + button in the main screen's toolbar. It will open a new screen that gives you many possibilities to subscribe to podcasts. If you were using iTunes or a different podcast app that allows you to export your subscriptions as an OPML file, you can select the OPML import button to retrieve your previous subscriptions. You can also use the search engine to find the podcasts you are looking for or browse popular Podcasts lists. For those last features, make sure to set the language filter accordingly to your need.

Once you have subscribed to your podcasts, you will need to open the app settings (Slide open the menu from the left side of the screen and press the Settings icon at the bottom of the menu)
  1. By default, the app allows to download and stream episodes over WiFi only. If you want to do so over a 3G or 4G connection please go into Settings/Network and then disable the 'Wifi only' restriction
  2. Then if you want the app to automatically retrieve new episodes, you will have to go into Settings/Update/Automatic Update. You will have to select both the refresh rate and the time of the refresh (ie: If like me, you want to update your feeds before waking up, you can enable Automatic Update at 6:00am every 24 hours)
  3. Then you can enable Automatic Download of new episodes. It means that every time a new episode is retrieved by the app, it will be automatically downloaded. This setting will apply to every podcast, so be careful because it might use a lot of storage. If you prefer, you can enable this setting per podcast (see below). To enable this feature go into Settings/Download
  4. By default, downloaded content will be stored in the device internal memory. If you want it to be stored on your SD card or in the folder of your choice, you can do so by selecting a new Storage folder (Settings/Download/Storage folder)
  5. If you want, downloaded episodes can be automatically added to the playlist. To do so, enable Settings/PlayList/Automatic PlayList.
  6. If you want episodes to be automatically removed from the playlist once they have been fully listened to, please enable Settings/PlayList/Automatic Dequeue
  7. If you want downloaded files to be automatically deleted once they have been fully listened to, please enable Settings/Automatic cleanup/After playback
  8. If you want to limit the number of downloaded episodes to keep per podcast, you can enable the automatic cleanup settings that can remove older episodes or keep a limited number of episodes (Settings/Automatic Cleanup). If you're afraid these features will delete too many episodes, you can enable the 'Recycle Bin' that will store content deleted automatically for a short period of time. During that time, you will be able to restore those episodes. Once the period is over they will be deleted.

FYI most of those settings can be customized per podcast. To do so, long press on a podcast in the app main screen and select Custom Settings. You can then override the default app settings for the selected podcast.

Setting up the app might take some time, but once you're done, if like me you enabled every automatic behavior, the app will manage almost everything on its own. Every morning my feeds are updated before I wake up. New episodes are automatically downloaded and added to the PlayList. So I just have to take my phone, open the Playlist, sort the episodes depending on my mood and press play. The episodes will be played, then once finished they will be deleted and the player will start playing the next one.

You can also use the app 'Continuous Playback' feature in order to play multiple episodes of the same podcast without having to handle the playlist manually. This feature needs to be enabled first in Settings/Playlist/Continuous playback. You will find a lot of information about this feature here.

Feel free to take a look at the other settings I didn't mention here. If you have questions and/or suggestions, please contact me (Settings/Feedback)

There's a small presentation of the app on YouTube that might help figure out how to subscribe and start playing podcasts (video)
