Add new sorting and filtering/view options to "downloaded episodes"
I want to be able to easily play all of the downloaded episodes from one specific podcast feed in oldest to newest order. Currently this is difficult.
When a podcast feed has dozens of unread episodes, finding the downloaded ones can be difficult. One way to fix this would be to change the "view" options when looking in a specific podcast feed. Currently you can "view all episodes" or "hide read episodes". If you could add "view only downloaded episodes" then this would solve my problem.
Another approach would be to change the "Downloaded episodes" view and allow sorting in this view. If I could sort the "Downloaded episodes" by name (alphabetical), then I think that would also solve my problem. Thank you!
You should now be able to do this in the latest v2.28.
You can go into the ‘Downloaded episodes’ screen and filter by podcast.
It may not be exactly what you were looking for, but the result should be the same.
Please let me know if I need to reopn,e this.
Thanks
Xavier

I like this. I would like to recommend one more wrinkle to this. Sort by "file density"... so file size/duration...this might be the same as bit rate. I find that I'm often bumping up against my storage capacity so occasionally I want to be able to get through as much data as possible. I can sort of do this by sorting by file size and looking at the duration to find the most storage bang for my listening buck, but it's not always clear cut.

Does that do what I described? I don't see how.
We are talking through each other: clearly I need to explain the issue better, but I don't know why. Probably you have a solution in mind that isn't obvious to me, so I'll explain as best I can what I tried and how it fails.
Your solution works if the only podcast to which I've subscribed is Freakonomics. I can do "swipe from left", "playlist", "clear playlist", "Enqueue downloaded episodes", but then, if I download more than one podcast, I'm stuck. The playlist now contains every downloaded episode of EVERY podcast, NOT just Freakonomics. I can say "Play" and it will play from ALL the podcasts. If I sort by podcast name (so I can scroll down to the first episode of Freakonomics in the playlist), then the episodes will play out of order. If I sort by publication date, then I'll get not just Freakonomics but History Of English or whatever as well.
Perhaps I should be able to go to "swipe from left", "playlist", "clear playlist", "swipe from left", "podcasts", "freakonomics", "ENQUEUE ALL DOWNLOADED EPISODES". But that last option doesn't exist. I can go "Action Mode" and then manually (visually) scan the episode list for downloaded-and-unread episodes, select "enqueue", but that's ridiculously tedious when there are 150 or so episodes, and is just the sort of task that computers should do so humans don't have to.
Another solution would be a "Select all downloaded and unread" or "select all downloaded" or something in the "Action mode" menu of a podcast. Then we could click that, enqueue them, go to the playlist, sort by date, and all's well. But that option doesn't exist.
But presumably we're talking through each other because there's a solution in your mind and in your software that is not obvious to me. Could you instruct us as to how exactly to accomplish (2) from my post on May 10?
Many thanks!

You can select the automatic sorting of episodes in the playlist. To do so, just press the sort button in the toolbar.

Data connection is relevant because "Queue unread" makes sense when you have a data connection, and "Queue downloaded" makes sense when you don't.
Here's the desired task: I'm subscribed to more than one podcast, but I'm in the mood to listen only to Freakonomics for a while. So I want to
(1) clear the playlist
(2) add every downloaded episode of Freakonomics to the playlist
(3) sort them by publication date
(4) play themHow do I do this? Everything is easy except for (2).
Thanks!!!

Sorry but I don't understand your comment. Why are you talking about data connection here? When episodes are already downloaded you don't need any data to queue them. From every screen you can queue downloaded episodes to the playlist using the Lon press or action bar menu

This is for listening to a series of podcast episodes when not connected to the net (e.g. on an airplane, or when data are expensive). Right now I don't see how to do that.
"One way to fix this" might work if it were also easy to enqueue all episodes in a view, but I don't see how to do that.
"Another approach" (sorting by name) doesn't seem to work, since names are fairly arbitrary and aren't guaranteed to sort by podcast&date.

it would be good to have also "random" sorting option

I think "sort by name" is certainly valuable but I think "sort by date" is equally, if not more valuable. The sort abilities in the Playlist are really robust and pulling those into the Downloaded episodes screen would be terrific! Thanks!

I'd love to be able to do the alphabetical sort like Chuck mentioned.

Like hold and drag podcasts up and down the list?

Allowing sort options in the Downloaded episodes seems easiest to adapt to...I'd think?
