Port Podcast Addict to a Windows Universal App
I have the Android version of Podcast Addict and I love it! Please port it to Windows as a Universal App so I can run it on all my Windows 10 PCs / Tablets / Phones / Surfaces / Xboxes / IoTs / SurfaceHubs / HoloLenses / Servers (ok, not servers...maybe?). If you need help, there are probably lots of resources to help you. Thank you!

Edit: Microsoft just confirmed that their Astoria projectr is dead: http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/02/25/microsoft-confirms-android-to-windows-app-tool-project-astoria-is-dead/
Unless they come back with an alternate solution there shouldn’t be a Windows port any time soon.
Sorry about that

Xavier, if you implement the ability to sync across devices, could you build a simple Windows based player that did nothing more than take the next podcast off the playlist and stream it to the PC?

What an outstanding feature the ability to synch would be.
Podcast Addict is an excellent app, and the only important thing I can think of that it needs is the ability to sync to Windows 10.
I have just donated and I hope that will help, along with other people's donations, to spur development into this next frontier. Charge!

It doesn't look like it. What they call a universal app is an app that will run on any Microsoft device/OS, but they don't provide the tools to convert Android apps anymore (at least for now) -

Forget Windows Apps. They're hopeless. Lee Botton's comment is a far far far better idea.

Xavier, I don't know what the future of Project Astoria is, but keep watching that space. I appreciate the challenge for a one-man shop to support multiple platforms. The growth of Win10 has been pretty incredible - over 100 million devices in 4 months or so. Gartner is predicting Android and Windows to tie in total installed base in 2016. From a business perspective, it might make sense to consider the Android version of Podcast Addict feature complete for now, i.e. still keep fixing high impact bugs and keep up with compatibility for the latest version of Android, but suspend work on additional features. And focus 90% of your time on developing a native Universal App that works on Desktop and Xbox. There is nothing on Windows that is even close to Podcast Addict - you have a window of opportunity now to corner the market and ride the adoption wave.

I agree with Lee Botton. A web version would be a far better choice.

I would certainly love being able have an app for my PC, where I can sync progress and seamlessly (as possible) switch between phone and desktop.

I came on here to suggest that I a web-based app be built and saw this thread. I certainly agree that being able to use the subscriptions data and what we've subscribed to etc via podcast addict on a laptop / desktop machine would be fantastic and to be able to play through the computer speakers for example (currently I plug my phone in to the speakers but it means I can't get the same fullness of sound).
I don't think a Windows App would be the best choice though. Whilst many of us (me included) do use Windows, it would still be very limiting to invest all that time in developing just for Windows. The same, or perhaps even less time could be put into developing a basic web interface which could be used on many, many platforms including macs, chromebooks and so on. Obviously you wouldn't download episodes but you wouldn't need to because you would necessarily be connected, which isn't a difficult way to be these days.
I would suggest that this be prioritised as part of podcast addict's development as it would really give it a fantastic edge and coupled with the very high quality and customizability of the app, it would really extend the potential. Just remember to keep options like default play speed! I always use 1.4x speed as standard which is fine for me to understand and means I can listen to a lot more! Great work so far!

Microsoft will be releasing compatibility for Android apps so maybe the porting effort will be minimal. Also, would saving to OneDrive/Google Drive fix cross device syncing?

@Aaron developing an app takes a lot of time, especially when you're alone and doing this on your free time.
This app won't be developed for other platform.
I might build a Windows Universal app once Microsoft fixes the framework tools/limitations.
But because the app doesn't have a cross device syncing feature the universal app might not be very useful for now.
The only thing that might be developed later is a webapp, so the app can be used from any device, but this won't happen any time soon... -

This comment has bee posted over a month ago, and yet you guys have yet to announce a Universal Windows 10 app. People don't just use Android all the time. Some of us have IOS, and Windows 10 devices as well. IF i was an app developer, i would be making my app for all platforms, so everyone has a shot to use it.

I'd pay for this. This would also satisfy many user's request for a computer app. (Windows users, at least.)
