My use case is a little different. I like that the sleep timer does not mark a podcast as played automatically when the timer expires or the podcast finishes. It makes it easy to resume if it is something I fell asleep to.

But I mostly use the sleep timer to pause the playlist at the end of a podcast I'm actively listening to. The podcast remains on the playlist and while it can be deleted, it is not marked played. Navigating to the podcast episode list to mark an episode played is not convenient, especially if the podcast is mixed in with many episodes, and there is no direct way to navigate to the episode list from the playlist. Being able to mark a podcast played from the playlist would save several steps.
