Episodes marked read are not being deleted
When I use the option to mark older episodes as 'read' the downloaded episodes are not being automatically deleted as they should be if that setting is active for the podcast.
The only way around this is to manually delete each episode, which can take a long time to do.
Thanks!

Xavier, can you make an update so that 'Mark older episodes as Played' functions in the same manner? I've migrated over to Podcast Addict and I went in and used that function on all of my feeds. The update you delivered on the March 29 doesn't work with it. It only deletes the episodes if I use the 'Mark played' function.

Still is a problem I just ran out of space. Marking all as played should also delete all.

PLEASE READ THISI!
The Automatic cleanup setting you're referring to will only delete a downloaded file once it has been fully listened to. Marking an episode as played manually even if you partially played it will NOT delete the file.
If you're done listening to a file before the end you can LONG PRESS on the player next button so the app can process the file as if it was fully listened to before skipping to the next file.
You can also use the app skip outro feature so the app can automatically skip the end of an episode towards the end and then delete the episode (https://podcastaddict.com/faq/450)

Glad I'm not the only one grappling with this issue. I was confused why my SD card was so full when I have Podcast Addict set up to delete played episodes (plus a max episode per podcast limit set). When I looked at the Podcast Addict folders in my SD card, the episodes which either I've deleted manually or were supposedly deleted (show the option to download them in the app, rather than the option to play) after I listened to them were still there!
Great app otherwise but this is a pretty huge flaw!
Edit:
I solved this by manually cleaning up the folders after switching the storage location back to the SD card. My best guess is the SD card being removed for a day or two (quite a while ago) and then being put back in contributed to this. I'm not sure exactly how or why. However, the app appears to be keeping the file system tidy as it's supposed to now. Fingers crossed it continues doing so, cleared 20 GB of old files. -

Still a problem. Marked read wont delete. Should be a simple fix but over 3 years the same problem.

I've used the ad version of Podcast Addict for years now and have been happy with it; however I've only just realised it has completely filled my phones memory with downloaded episodes that I've already listened too.
Exploring the setting I found that 'Settings -> Automatic Cleanup -> Delete' was unchecked; meaning that episodes were not being deleted after I had listened to them. Not sure if this was the default option (if it is this seems crazy), or if I had inadvertently ticked it in the past. Either way I ticked it.
I then selected 'Settings -> Automatic Cleanup -> Force cleanup' which apparently should apply my current settings to the podcasts on my phone. It didn't. That is episodes I've already listened to are still on my phone. I closed and opened the app a few times to see if that made a difference (though admittedly haven't reset my phone).
Option now is delete all episodes manually, or uninstall app. Will go for latter, which is a pain.

I just freed up 35 gb of downloaded podcasts I assumed were being deleted when marked as listened to. Is this not an option?

@Xavier
My last comment wasn't very clear. I have hundreds of episodes downloaded that were manually marked read. Those episodes appear over numerous different podcasts. At this point I'm not sure I could even find all of the episodes that are downloaded and marked listen to in order to delete them and clear space on my phone. I love Podcast Addict, but the fact that it is eating so much space on my phone is a big problem. Right now I only have 2 options. 1. Spend an entire afternoon looking for the hundreds of episodes that are marked red and downloaded, and then manually deleting them. 2. Uninstalling the app and starting all over. I really don't want to do either of those things. Would it be possible to add a setting to the automatic clean up that made it also pick up manually marked read episodes so they get deleted?Thanks in advance. This would be a really awesome feature.

@Ravy I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. Please send me an email if you have any question so Ic an help (Settings/Feedback)

@Dale
This setting will only delete episodes when they have been listened to. Marking an episode as played will not delete it automatically -

Does anyone know what the green check mark ✅ mean by the previously recorded episode?

I too have traced my memory problems to "read" episodes not being deleted.
There is an option to "Delete downloaded episodes once they have been fully listened to". I have this set.
When I "mark older episodes as read" that is, to me, the same as saying I have fully listened to it, so it needs to be deleted - automatically. That is not happening, which is nonsensical. -

I concur. I often "mark older episodes as read" -- but this doesn't delete them if they've been downloaded, which is a problem. You either have to manually delete them one at a time or show read episodes, select all, unselect the episodes you want to keep, and then delete. It's unnecessarily painful. When I mark something as read I want it deleted from everywhere -- playlists, storage, etc.

I also had this problem. I have the setting that read episodes will be deleted. The episodes go off the list after they are read, and seem to have been deleted. I only found by looking into the file storage that there were still 50 episodes undeleted on my phone, using up a mass of storage. The issue isn't users making the wrong choice, there is an issue in the system.

This works the other way around. Instead of marking an episode as read, delete it, that way it will be marked as read at the same time. Deleting an episode manually takes the exact same time as marking it as read. In both case you can use the select mode to select multiple episodes before choosing the action

Also it doesn't show the downloaded episodes anywhere in storage. I've been having memory being full issues for months now and couldn't find the problem. Just deleted a bunch of podcasts today and freed up 60% of my phones memory.

There is an automatic cleanup option for when a podcast finishes yes, but not when marked read.
I don't see an option to delete downloaded episodes in the context menu?
