Automatically or optionally resize podcast "thumbnails" to actual thumbnail sizes.
This is a rather insidious and invisible destroyer of phone storage. I realize you can't control podcast author's uploads, but is it possible to control the app's downloads?
I've lost well over 300MB of valuable SD storage for the display of an often mediocre visual branding. Many podcast thumbs are 3000x3000 pixels (NPR!) & I've seen one podcast with a 16535x16535 pixel show "thumb"! (The Big Broadcast) That's over 4 TIMES 4K TV resolution!
I just saw that you have a 'cleanup' option, but that will only encourage the app to redownload those images next time I browse podcasts and with rural metered net access at $12.50/GB that's just like throwing money out the window.
I was forced to resize the images in Picasa to 200x200 and replaced a 300MB cache into 12.47MB. (The aforementioned 'The Big Broadcast' thumb was 11.6MB ALONE!)
If I use your 'cleanup' option it will delete my now thin & lean thumbnail cache.
I'd like to see a "Phone thumbs only" & "Tablet thumbs only" options that would resize them to 200x200 or 600x600 which seems MORE than adequate for a stored thumbnail.

Downsizing the resolution is one way, but the more effective way is to convert all them bloated PNGs [*] to JPEG with a high compression ratio. A thumbnail should not be more than 200KiB, and a loop that progressively reduces quality until below that threshold would be easy to implement. Or just setting it default to quality 23/100.. 😃
[*] in my thumbnails folder, there have been thumbnails with up to 19MiB!

The cleanup feature only deletes unused artwork files. It won't clear the one used by your podcasts/episodes.
Most devices today have a FULL HD device and many even have a 2K/3K or even 4K screen. This means that artwork files cannot be resized to 200x200 or even 600x600 on every device.
Also in order to resize the file the app would still need to download the original file first which means that this won't save any data.
BTW you can enable artwork file download over WiFi only in the app Settings/Network
