I'm having big problems with the location in the podcast being retained, on jelly bean. If I stop a podcast and do something else, the place is regularly lost when I reopen it. I also have problems with the podcast stopping mid play when I open other apps. This may be a memory issue that cannot be controlled, but can you not get it to save the podcast location more frequently - as it's constantly losing my place even when I close the app manually.

Which device do you have ? Every device using a MT65xx CPU (Wiko, Alcatel, Acer, and a lot of other brands) have this position issue. There’s a know bug with the CPU drivers that make it impossible to resume the position
Regarding the other issue, Android give priority to the app in foregrounf, so if you have limited memory and are on another app screen it might kill any background app to free some resources
