per podcast volume adjustment
A per-podcast volume adjustment would be handy. Some podcasts are very quite and require me to turn up the volume, others are very loud and require me to turn down the volume. It would be helpful (especially when listening at night when falling asleep) to have a more constant volume level between podcasts. Not asking for anything complicated like dynamic compression or normalization, just a manual slider on the custom podcast settings screen that is an adjustment to either the system volume or an adjustment to the digital levels (whichever is easier/better to implement).

Spot on - there tends to be consistency between the episodes of a podcast but huge disparity between the podcasts themselves. Being able to save a preferred play-back level with each podcast would make life a lot easier for those of us who listen while having our hands full.
... and thx Xavier - you do a great job :-)

I also support this idea. The "Volume Boost" feature is a good start but not sufficient. This is a two step adjustment (on/off). It shouldn't be too hard to expand this to maybe a 10-step adjustment. Thanks for understanding.

The "Volume Boost" feature can be enabled/disabled per podcast. I think that basically solves this problem. To me it seems that this can be closed

Also for car drive is useful anyway

This would be very helpful. If you drive with the bike and you have to have your hands on the handlebar. No hands for using the volume.

In response to "How does this differ from using the volume buttons on your phone," the answer is simple: you don't always easily have access to the volume buttons. There are certain podcasts that you *know* are always too quiet or too loud; allowing a custom volume boost would allow you to set the volume at a level appropriate for the loudest podcasts, the custom boost those that are too quiet. If like me you listen to podcasts throughout the night (with the sleep timer function), such a customization would be hugely helpful.

Yeah, it's really nice to have volume leveling or automatic normalization. I'm waiting for that feature for so long

Automatic volume leveling or normalization is the holy grail here, but adding the volume boost to the podcast custom settings would be an easy step in the right direction.

added my vote. NPR's Planet Money is my favorite podcast; but even with my phone and my car stereo both cranked to full volume, I can barely understand it in traffic. Then I change to any other podcast, and my eardrums are blown.

Really want an onscreen volume slider/toggle. Can't always find the device buttons easily depending on the situation. Only thing I really miss about other apps out there.

Anything would be great. I have the volume cranked for Hardcore History and then get defeaned when the playlist moves on.

Automatic normalization would be better but I could live with manual controls.
Some podcasts are wicked loud while other are super soft. I wish podcasters could find a standard and stick with it...

...or during manual work.

This would be useful when using the playlist and when one's hands are occupied, eg, when biking or driving or going to sleep.

Since some podcasts are too quiet even at full volume for some headphones & environments, a digital level increase/decrease would be preferable.
A full blown implementation might measure (during play) & display the cumulative average volume of each podcast & allow "normalization" of playback to a value the user chooses for themselves. -

How does this differ from just using the volume buttons on your phone?
