Add an "Archive mode" for automatically listening to podcasts in sequential order.
Many of the podcasts I listen to are sequential histories or narrative content. I'd love an "archive mode" for podcasts, where say, if I've already marked episode 1-39 as read, it will automatically download and queue 40 and 41. Then once I've listened to 40, it will automatically download 42 and so on. And of course, it would ignore new episode releases until I've caught up. Currently, I have to go manually download the next few episodes every so often.
Edit: Delivered in v3.21

Thanks !
I will do some tests to see if I can add an ‘archive mode’ checkbox, that will change the behavior of the current automatic download setting.
In that case the app will keep up to XX downloaded episodes. This number will depend on the maximum number of downloaded episodes to keep which can be set in Settings/Automatic cleanup.
Please join the beta user group in order to test this new feature in the next couple of days (http://podcastaddict.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/253911-how-to-join-the-beta-program)
Thanks

I would really like this to be implemented too. It doesn't seem like it would take too much work as most of the options are already there, e.g. download older first, number of podcasts to keep, auto download etc.
I think the only extra piece of work would be to trigger a download when a previous episode has been listened to.
At least 50% of the podcasts i listen to are in a historical format where i need to listen to them in order so this would finish PA for me as the perfect app

This page came up when searched for hints on using Podcast Addict for listening to archived podcasts. Let me add my vote for the value of this feature.
I agree it ought to work just as was already said - when auto download is set for a podcast, with order equal to oldest first, go ahead and queue a new download for the oldest unread episode, up to the set storage limit.
This is especially useful for podcasts which represent a specific book or a sequence of lectures. Eg, audiobooks or online classes.
PA is so close to delivering this feature already. I'm surprised it's not there. I like the app for many reasons, and if this is added I'll be proud to support it by paying.

I would really dig this feature. Continuous playback doesn't work for this if you want other shows interspersed and download oldest first doesn't work because of the timeframe

@Anonymous
The app already does exactly what ask for.
If you press play on an episode it automatically queues every unread episodes of the same podcast.
Make sure that 'Continuous playback' is enabled in Settings Playlist so it can work -

This feature would not only be useful for archival podcasts, but I routinely listen to a week's work of Autoline Daily, for example in one pass. If I start with the "oldest" one on my iPhone, the iOS Podcast app will seamlessly switch to the next one after the current one is finished. With this app, I have to keep taking my phone out of my pocket, unlocking it and hit "play" on the next episode which is already sitting their queued but not playing in the player. I imagine this is handled int he player setting (Global playlist...) but it is not intuitive to me how to make this work in the way I wish.

I've taken to using BeyondPod now because it does have this function. It's awkward and complicated to get it working, but it can be done.

It seems like this is the way it should work anyway if you have Automatic Download and Download Older First both selected. I would think it would then automatically download episodes up to the Download Limit, and download the next episode when you finish one of the downloaded ones. Very disappointing that it does not work this way. I wanted to make Podcast Addict my podcast app, but now I am reconsidering. Please add this feature.

I would upgrade for this feature as well. I agree with Austin's addition of deleting one episode to make space for the next one being downloaded - I think an adjustable buffer would be super handy. Some like to keep 10 podcasts on their phones, but my space is such that I'd rather have the one I just listened to, the one I'm currently listening to, and the next one (that's just downloaded) unless I'm on a road trip in which case I'd want to set it to have 5 or 6 depending on the length of the episodes. An adjustable "keep this many" buffer would help immensely with that, and further amplify the usefulness of the Archive Mode this is suggesting.

This idea comes back once in a while, https://podcastaddict.uservoice.com/forums/211997-general/suggestions/7025150-include-an-outdated-late-old-episodes-download-mod and I found a few ones suggesting related ones.
Really is worth consideration, I bought the payed version, and stoped using it cause of this *missing feature*

I pledge to donate $50 if this feature is added successfully.

Personnally I'd like that podcasts placed in archive section wouldn't be deleted when listened, not like podcasts placed in playlist.

Amen to providing sequential ordering of podcasts.

To expand,
It would be great if this worked in conjunction with all the other features.
Imagine I have episodes 1-10 downloaded and I finished episode 1 it would be great if episode 1 was deleted (as per my clean up settings) and episode 11 started downloading (maybe waiting for a wifi connection). I listen to a lot of serial stuff and as well as being new to podcasts in general and trying to get through backlogs of educational talks.
I would give this feature 10 votes if I could and this feature alone would cause me to purchase the ad-free upgrade.
