allow me to swipe away episodes I don't want to listen to.
On the latest episode list, I would like to be able to swipe left or right to delete that episode as I don't intend to listen to it. It can be a little bit annoying to have to scroll through a bunch of episodes I don't want to listen to over andover again.

Not sure what Nigel means that "being able to delete podcasts from the list of podcasts" would clash with Android desires

this would clash with the way we are being urged to interact with android.

there should be a flag called "i care about this episode" which should be toggled on manually by the user. and toggled off by the app when an episode is listened to completely.
another flag should be called "already played" which toggled automatically by the app when an episode is listened to completely , also can be toggled by the user.
another flag should be called "keep permanently" which is toggled on or off only manually by the user. when on the episode will not be deleted unless toggled off.

I think most podcast app developers don't take the read flag seriously enough. I don't want to mark episodes which I didn't listen to as read, because knowing which episodes I had actually listened to is very important information, and they are diametrically opposite to episodes I ignored and never even cared about. Conflating the two is a terrible workaround.
When I encounter a topic I remember I had heard a podcast about, and want to listen to it again or share it with a friend, I use my already played filter to find it. The last thing I want is clutter that up with junk I wasn't ever interested in, let alone listened to.
This is the main reason I got an immediate refund on Pocket Casts, because it marks every episode before the moment of subscription as read by default. Swipe left would be a great way to allow distinguishing "already played" from "don't care".

I would suggest the vary same feature with the option to either delete or mark as read when swiping.

Xavier, I do appreciate your trying to give workarounds to this problem, but either I don't understand the work around or it doesn't address the issue. Your suggestion is "automatic deletion", but deleting the episode is not the issue, the issue the huge LIST of episodes. They are already marked as read, but I want to remove SOME of them from the episode list.
-
@Geo Jeff: you can enable the automatic deletion of the episode when it has been listened to, that way the episode will be marked as read AND deleted at the same time. That should solve this issue for now.

Xavier, thanks for your support.
I know I can mark episodes read and then hide read episodes, but this is not ideal. Let me give you one example, I have others. I hide unread episodes, I listen to an episode, then it disappears from my list, but I still need to delete it, since I no longer need it downloaded. But since it is gone from my list, I can't see it to delete it. It would be so nice to be able to control myself which episodes to show by swiping away unwanted shows. -
@Geo Jeff: in that case you can use the 'Mark every episode read', or do it with a selection of episodes, or one by one from the description screen (mark read then swipe) or use the 'Mark older episodes read' contextual menu entry

To me this is the biggest missing feature. Some of my podcasts have 50+ already listened to episodes which makes the list of podcasts unnecessarily long

Agreed. A simple way to delete any podcast that is listed when one subscribes would be very helpful. Maybe a left or right swipe previously mentioned.

Agree with suggestion; swipe left to mark as read, swipe right to download episode. All the alternatives suggested are no where near as useful. GMail does it, and so do most modern apps so it's hardly anything new to implement.

You can use the select mode from tge tollbar to select your episodes, then select the mark read entry from the toolbar menu. It will be way faster than marking them read one by one

You can set the player in setting to delete podcasts when you skip.

My use-case would be swiping away episodes (marking them as read) in the 'Latest Episode'-view.
Right now you must press and hold on the episode and wait for the context menu, then find the mark as read alternative.Swiping would be so much more efficient.
Thanks for a great product by the way.

You can mark episodes as read in order to hide them
