EDIT: a 1st beta will be available by the end of the day.

FYI the Custom playlists will soon be improved.
Filters will be available so the selected category can only show episodes based on their download status, played status, stared status, publication date, …
I get it that some of you want multiple playlists were episodes can be manually added, but there’s no plan to implement this for now.
However, according to the feedback I got by email, it looks like those filters will solve limitations of the current solution for most users.
Feel free to send me some feedback by email if you have ideas for other filters that can be implemented (Settings/Feedback/Email)
    Thanks

PodCast Addict seems to be set up for a general use case of "listening to podcasts as a stream", e.g. as new ones come up on subscribed shows etc.Another use case exists where users wish to curate episodes from multiple podcasts on themes that they are listening to.

I currently have to do this by adding all episodes to a single very long playlist and then having different themes at different stages of the playlist - scrolling to find a desired theme.

Multiple custom playlists would allow episodes to be added to one or more playlists. Users could then select the playlist they are interested in listening to at that given point.

The Podcast level "category" and "filter" does not work as it treats all episodes from a podcast as a sin;gle category and does not allow for custom sorting of playlists.

Example; I listen on themes roughly as follows with selected episodes from the given podcast:

"Current Affairs / News" - Economist, The Rest Is Politics, Naked Scientist, Making Sense...
"Science" - Economist, Lex Fridman, Huberman, Freakanomics, Making Sense...
    "Health" - Huberman, Intelligence2...
"Business" - Economist, McKinsey, DOAC, Lex Fridman...
    "Coding" - Django, Python Bites...
