Next version will allow you to select if you want to filter episodes list screen by podcast (like it is right now) or by category. If you select the later, then you can easily select the episodes for a specific category to apply an action like download, mark played, add to playlist, …

Was about to post a similar request but there seem to be a couple of separate requests.
User story:
In some categories I would like to see the recent episodes of all the podcasts in it so I can cherry pick which ones to download and listen to. Like looking at a table of contents to decide which parts of a book I will further read.
