Next version will allow you to search episodes in the playlist.
You will need to use the playlist Option menu tab and select "Find Episode", then you can enter some keywords and press on '<' or '>' to scroll up / down the playlist to the previous / next occurrence.
A first beta should be soon available.
Please join the Beta on the Play Store app page and feel free to provide some feedback about this feature (Settings/Feedback)

This and the ability to create multiple playlists seem to be aimed at similar problems. If they aren't feasible, maybe a tag system for individual episodes would be? The categories currently available only apply to whole podcasts.

You can pause the entire queue in download manager, even auto downloads should just pile up in the queue until you unpause.

Currently from the download manager this is 3 taps - drop-down > network settings > episodes download. Steps 2 and 3 are both top of list. Might be better added to navigation sidebar than download manager

Might be better to have settings>player>controls>1.0x_progress toggle whether player position is translated at all. Also, chapter/bookmark timestamps and durations. I don't think the app should try to change the attached episode description provided by the feed. Or maybe 1.0x and adjusted speed could be displayed together, but it would be confusing

This sounds like the option "Mark Played" in the drop-down list. Also available with multiple episode select using the checkmark or by long-pressing an episode icon.

I can see this being very useful if you mainly stream instead of downloading. But I disagree with the added "play button" function - you may want to add more to playlist without starting the player. -

Edit: I just noticed settings>automatic cleanup. I'm guessing this has what you're looking for.
Don't know if any of these will help,
There is a batch download limit in settings>download, that can also be set per-podcast. It is probably affected by the "download older episodes first" option immediately following.
There is an episode number limit setting in settings>display>episodes, but the minimum is 50.
You can also filter episodes in the list by Recent (7 days).
If you're only listening to one episode a day, you may consider turning off automatic download in settings>download, and only downloading (or streaming) the one you want.
But I agree that some more fine-tuned filtering options would be helpful, like a setting for changing the threshold of "Recent."

Choose the individual podcast from the list of podcasts. This should show you all of the podcast's episodes. Make sure "display every podcast" is selected - the eye icon at the top. Then filter the list to Downloaded using the dropdown currently marked "All" under the show art at the top. You can then sort the list or select individual episodes.
