Cross device synchronization
Would be great to be able to synchronize subscriptions, playlist, read status, ... between devices

Just a heads up regarding the latest version of the app. It doesn’t provide cross device syncing yet, but it allows you to sign in to your Google Drive account and have all your data automatically backed up to make sure they are safe at all time. It also makes restoring the data on a new device really easy.
You can go into Settings/Backup to enable this and sign-in
Thanks

https://gpodder.net/ will allow you to keep track of your podcasts shows and playbacks, there are several android, iphone, mac, windows and linux applications that do support this service.
There is already a suggestion for this feature

I still have a couple releases to deliver will small improvements / new features and bugfix, then I will spend a couple of weeks developing this. Then it will take at least another couple of weeks for intensive beta testing...
I hope to deliver this feature before the end of the year -

This feature would be great. I have a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 7 and it would be great to switch from device to device and pickup where I left off on my last podcast with read and playlist synced between each.

This would be great, especially if you get a new phone at times.

Would love to have podcast subscriptions, read/unread status and playlist work across multiple devices (e.g. phone & tablet) and even better, to be able to also have desktop access as well. Would love this feature!!

Even if Podcast Addict implements its own format to fully support all Podcast Addict features it would be great to see gPodder support for cross-platform synchronization; organizing large lists of Podcasts is more comfortable on a PC.

I just want to sync the part of a podcast I'm up to between my tablet and phone, although since I go through phones a lot, having an account that would immediately grant me access to all my feeds without setting up again would be awesome.

This has probably been said before, but this would be awesome as a part of the paid app feature.

Any thoughts on my idea?

Use Google drive for sync. Google chrome uses it and it does a great job.
You could create your own information storage schema. This would allow you to store whatever you want (like pod casts that have already been listened to).
The only down side is that if the user does not have a Google account that it may not work.
A plus side is that if you make the schema like an XML then it would only take like 1kb to store your information. This is usually available on the user's profile.
I personally would do this:
If you are only distributing the app on Google play then Google drive is a good idea. But if you are distributing it elsewhere then look into alternatives.Or you can just support multiple services like MS one drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or logmein cubby.
Hope this may further your efforts on implementing this feature!

As my phone has recently broken (won't charge or turn on), this feature looks a lot more important. I would also suggest gpodder.net. This would allow cross platform synchronisation.

I want to sync the actual downloaded podcasts between devices. ATM I do it by HD File Manager creating a simple anonymous FTP server, and then browsing to it and downloading the entire podcast directory. It's a clunky way of doing it but gpodder has no value to me at all as I cannot stream data.

Does google allow any storage for apps that could be used? If so, would be good as everyone will have that.

This feature will be added in 2014. But it requires a lot of work server side and also to find a solution that won't cost to much... So it will take a few month to implement it
